ThrusH INC; well, err- we'd like to be incorporated

hey this is Kevin on behalf of ThrusH (oh, and I was the re-appearing character in our film this year), and I'd like to start with that as you might have been able to tell, this is our first year entering the film project. or actually, any film project or competition for the matter.

right, and I did say we, but officially as of now and as it's always been, our humble team pretty much consisted of my good friend Max (the kid with the locks of broom like hair flowing freely over his eyes {Hal in our short}), and myself. we originally had around ten people that said "yeah, awesome! this sounds so cool!!!' and never showed up. I guess you either need to promise people food or not rely on your friends whom you know will still be your friends whether or not they show up. and when that happens, I guess you need to work with what you've got; yourselves, two last- minute mutual friends, and your friend's girlfriend who'd rather film ducks than what we ask her to.

I think that for a senior in high school, this was by far the best experiance I've had to date with producing, editing and making a film on such a hectic schedule. and even on our hectic schedule, we didn't get to turn our film in on time. I mean, realistically, I don't think either of us aspired to make nationals rather just enter this thing to get our feet wet and see what we are up against, but still, I don't think that we should have pushed our time to the very last few hours like we did.

operating on two and a half hours of sleep, some disgustingly strong tea I made, and pure adrenaline, we had less than half the film edited by four o'clock, and it's not even that it takes me a while to put stuff together, but major technical difficulties popped up. after realizing that one gig of ram isn't sufficient to run premiere pro, in a last ditch effort at five thirty, we switched over to movie maker, which ran significantly faster on my computer. it's not like we had that much time to do a bang-up job of perfecting the contrast and sharpness of each clip by then anyway, so we just rolled with the punches.

god forbid anyone has to resort to doing what we did, my advice to everyone is NEVER stick WMV files back into movie maker; considering that WMM outputs WMV files, it's sort of like the same principle of that you never want to cook a child in a mother's milk, though if you do, a rabbi isn't going to scold you, rather your film might not feel like processing, as did ours. or as didn't ours. or something.

it wouldn't save due to a corrupt snippet of a single clip, and as a result, I clipped it out (hence the jumpiness and horrible editing at the end), and it saved. but that was the next day- I went to sleep fifteen minutes after the due date and all my friends went home with their heads bent down in shame. ran it to fabio's the following morning.

not that unexpectedly, in my opinion at least, we were blown out of the water. I mean, when you're surrounded by battleships and you're stuck on an inflatable boat with a super soaker, it's not that surprising, but we just need some time and some friends to be able to join y'all.

it has to be newbie fever for, well, newbies like us to join this competition, but seeing your own film in the theater while eating popcorn and watching it (oh yeah, and I was the obnoxcious one that brought it in- my apologies if it annoyed anyone) is such a big kick. all the bike repairs I had to do to fund my part of the entry fee were well worth it the second the lights dimmed.

lastly, I know my friend and I were kind of being dicks to people handing us flyers of their films and we honestly apologize for getting big heads pre-screening, but I promise that we were just messing around and aren't really so self-absorbed in real life. I promise we're just a couple of nice guys trying to have some fun and basking in our willful immaturity. no offense intended at all.

anyway, we, myself, or probably max (he composed all of our music whereas I'm more of the editing dude) would MOST DEFINATELY be up for more competition like this in the future, if not, helping out on other film projects. no, we don't have decent computers or cameras, but I'd say we're visionaries above all else and love pooling ideas, not to mention the fact that we often have some absolutely crazy ones that are limited by the amounts of people that we can get to help us, and often equiptment.

if you think you've got anything for us in the future, don't hesitate to e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , as I check it probably ten times a day or so, and I'd love to network with some of the amazing film makers/ actors/ pretty much anyone that's helped out on a film entered in this contest, because everything shown the other night was phenominal, seriously! it blew both of our minds and got us pretty stoked to take on some more projects in the future.

keep up the good stuff everyone and thanks again to Fabio for running the whole operation!!!

-Kevin
